“God:
-A.J. Bailey
The authority of a person’s believed ideals.”
A Soiled Concept
Why I Chose This Definition
I used my own words above to describe the concept of what a god is for one reason:
All the definitions I found in dictionaries included a cultural attribute of what THEIR god is believed to be, which is a substitute of the category for something within the category itself. Example: an airplane is the flying, steel container that has Boeing on it’s sides and stops at a Toledo airport in Ohio, usually with beverages onboard.
Tldr;
the dictionary definitions are dysfunctionally wrong.
Our Ideals
Imagine a perfect world or if you can’t, imagine 1 thing perfectly. What is it? What determines it’s perfection? Was it only your imagination originating from your feelings?
Your ideals are the words of your god(s) and when you work towards making bodies for those ideals to live in/through, you’re serving your god. In this way, your god rules over you.
Beliefs
Can belief be separate from action?
We wouldn’t know if it were. What do you mean, “I believe in __”? You mentally categorized it as true? Yes, but if it’s true, would you act as if it were false? Why? When you state belief in a person, you’re equating the person with their capabilities and actions. Like capabilities, beliefs are dead if no action can come from them. No tree fruit will come from a non-existent “tree”. Likewise, you won’t accomplish your goals through acting on falsehoods. That’s a dead end.
Objectively, One True Living God
There has to be one truth. We share a world that behaves according to it’s nature and not according to our desires. The best we can do is play with it according to the preset rules. While people serve various gods from their own imaginations, there is only one set of truly ideal rules and only one living god that spoke those truths into being. This god exists on its own and told us its name:
My God
My god is the god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In the beginning, he created the heavens and the earth. He produced mankind from himself, molded mankind in the ground in his own image, breathed into mankind’s nostrils living breath, named him אדם (Adam, from אדמה/ground), and put him in a garden where יהוה gave all the fruits of all the seed-bearing plants to Adam as good food and told Adam to not eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. (More complete story in Genesis)
In the garden, he made women from the side of Adam as well. After they disobeyed, Adam named this woman חוה (Eve: mother of all life). After 6 days of creating the heavens & the earth & everything in them, יהוה rested in the 7th day. One day, he brought Israel out of Egypt as he promised generations before and he gave them instructions on how to live as a great nation. He gave his son to Israel and named his son ישוע (Jesus), meaning salvation.
The Way – ישוע
One day, יהוה told Abraham to walk before him and be reserved (קדוש – usually translated as holy, but is the act of setting aside) as יהוה is reserved. Similarly, in the beginning when יהוה rested on the 7th day, he exalted it above the other 6 days by reserving it when there was only one people. יהוה set an example through his words & actions of the ideal way to live. He did this through the words he spoke to Israel at mount Sinai and he did it through the word he made flesh and called ישוע, and he did it through the words he spoke in the beginning to call the world into being.
Jesus lived and died according to his father’s instructions regardless of his bodily desires. He did so perfectly and showed us how to do the same. He was human and his life testifies that it’s possible for humans to live perfectly. His death echoes through the world and through the ages to lead everyone back to יהוה so they may properly live.
