His voice silenced, his bell rung.

The lips transparent, pink and open
A trap for those who dare to stay in
A place where words wish could escape
Where darkness swallows and makes late

The man, dejected, with head downcast,
A captive of his dire fate,
A prisoner of the deadly contrast,
Between light and dark, silent and spake.

Through pencils, markers, pens, and charcoal,
A.J. Bailey crafted an image, surreal and profound,
An expression of the human soul,
And what is done when the words can’t be found.
